Twitter has long since been one of the top social media sites to use for advertising, and now they have gone a step further by allowing advertisements. If you run a small business and want to use ads, you should definitely consider Twitter. Here are some tips for using these ads to get more exposure and leads.
Create Your Own Hashtags
While many other actions on Twitter and other social media sites require you to use the generic hashtags for the largest audience, this isn’t true for Twitter ads. When you start an ad campaign, you can choose your own hashtags. Try to use creative or unique hashtags that will get the attention of others, but will also look more creative. Since you only get a certain number of characters for the ad and hashtag, make it count. Include at least one with your business name, even if it is abbreviated. Others may start using your unique hashtags on Twitter when they notice them, which can be hugely successful.
Include a Free Item in the Ad
There are few things that more attention than an advertisement offering something for free. While coupons and discounts are also great to include in your ad, try to give away something completely for free. This could be a digital download or a physical product that is shipped to the customer. For example, you can include an ad that directs people to a page where they get an automatic free download of a graphic pack if you are advertising stock images or graphic design services. If you are a business with a monthly subscription box, include a code in the ad that gives them their first box for free.
Target Specific Accounts
When you decide on who to target with your ad campaigns, look at specific accounts and their followers, as opposed to simply interests. Targeting to interests has been done a thousand times before, and might not give you the return you are hoping for. You can get more leads and sales by instead looking at what the followers of specific accounts might be looking for. Target accounts that are relevant to your business and the types of products or services you provide. Measure the success of these campaigns until you find a few of them that get more clicks than others. You are bound to find some that do considerably better than the rest.
If you are struggling with your ads, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Many social media experts know the ins and outs of Twitter ads and will get you the best return on your investment.
