5 Graphic Design Trends for 2015
Now that 2015 is officially here, it is time to talk about the newest and greatest graphic design trends. The expected trends this year will include some of what you saw in the years prior with some new spins, plus brand new trends due to updated technology. Websites and blog layouts are going to incorporate the most popular styles, type and colors into places that are perfect for even the trendiest millennial. Here are some graphic design trends to look out for in 2015.
Graphic Design Trend #1: Flat Design
If you have not yet heard about flat design being used in web design, you’re already falling behind. This is going to be one of the hottest new trends to be used in graphic design, which gets a lot of its design influence from minimalism and Swiss design styles. It increases usability while still remaining basic with clean and open spaces, bright and bold colors, two-dimensional illustrations, and straight, crisp edges. Take a look at your tablet’s interface or the dashboard on Windows 8 and you will know exactly what flat design entails.
Graphic Design Trend #2: Ghost Buttons
Another trend you can expect to see more from graphic designers in 2015 is the use of ghost buttons. This is one of many trends that was first made popular by the release of Apple’s iOS 7, when the entire design element was streamlined and simplified. Ghost buttons are exactly what you think they are; transparent buttons that are empty for very light text. These buttons are very attractive to look at and are perfect when using a flat design. They are typically square or rectangle, are bigger than regular buttons, and really grab the viewer’s attention.
Graphic Design Trend #3: More Type
Every year, it seems type is changing and those new changes are the big trend for that year in graphic design. For the year 2015, there is no exception. Once again, there is going to be a big emphasis on type used in design. The newest trends in type are more casual fonts and handwritten type, perfect for the new crop of business owners and bloggers. Larger type is also being used, along with a wider range of color selection and the full screen background image.
Graphic Design Trend #4: Grid Layout
You first saw it on Pinterest, and now websites and apps everywhere are utilizing this very design. The grid-style layout shows an even grid of images used for products, services, or various other structured information. It provides more streamlining and logic when offering up important information. Many businesses are using the grid layout for representing what they offer to customers, and people are eating it up. The grid style is also still being combined with infinite scrolling.
Graphic Design Trend #5: Full Screen Backgrounds
Speaking of full screen background images, this is going to continue being a trend in 2015, along with full screen videos in the background. It first became popular in 2014, and is still being used in the coming year. Instead of a small profile picture or header, the entire background is a picture or video representing your product or service.
