Blogging is all about the numbers. The number of posts, images, shares, comments and subscribers all contribute to the impact your blog has in the blogosphere. People can subscribe to blogs for free, yet this is an area where many bloggers struggle.
Sadly, bloggers fail to realize that content is only part of the equation when it comes to inspiring readers to subscribe. It’s not just a terrific sign-up form either. The number of subscribers will only increase if your blog makes a spellbinding impact on readers.
Look at your blog through the eyes of a visitor. What changes can you make to enhance user experience? It may seem fickle, but looks matter. If your content is top notch, and your call to action is beyond reproach, you may need to rethink the design if you want to boost subscriber rates. Here are some design changes that will send your rates through the roof.
You chose your blog’s color scheme because it looks great to you, but those colors might be turning your visitors off. Studies have revealed just how much of a psychological influence colors have on the human brain. Visitors make subconscious judgments within 60-90 seconds of viewing your site, so you have to get the colors rights. If your color scheme is glaringly wrong, you should do a complete overhaul of the site. Otherwise, you can tweak one color at a time especially with your call to action buttons, and see what it difference each change makes to your conversion rates.
Most likely, you’ll need to increase, not decrease, the amount of white space between the content and other elements on the site. Too many elements crowded around your call to action text or buttons could make them invisible. Work with your designer to increase the white space on the page so you’ll have a healthy balance of space and content.
Above the fold
Your key conversion opportunities must be visible above the fold of the web page. Hiding them lower down the page leaves a lot to chance. Place your subscription box in the top left hand or right hand corner where the visitor will see it as soon as he lands on the page.
After visitors read your blog post, their eyes will rest for a moment at the bottom of the post content. This gives you a prime opportunity to present your key offer. Place your subscription box below blog posts if you’re after more subscribers. Make it visible, use the right words, but don’t be annoying.
Your readers will be happy to get on the list if they liked your post.
Page load time
Have you checked the speed of your page load lately? If it’s running rather slow, try reducing some of the clutter and larger elements on the page.
