If you’re looking for more ways to improve traffic of your website or blog, consider utilizing Pinterest. Based on images, Pinterest acts a virtual pinboarding site, and is extremely active. The site keeps going through improvements, drawing in millions of users on a regular basis. Most websites or blogs have some type of content that can be leveraged by using Pinterest; and it is free promotion for your site.
Pin Your Own Content
Start by pinning original content from your website or blog. Since the pins are going to potentially draw in first-time users, pin the best content you have. Make sure the images are clear and attention-grabbing and the pin doesn’t seem like you’re just spamming your own site. The way you pin your own content is by pinning the picture on that page, and having the pin on Pinterest linking to your content. It is easy to do and if you get re-pins, will get you a lot of traffic.
Pin Tutorials with Images
Tutorials are huge on Pinterest, so that is a great place to start. If you have a tutorial for a DIY project, cooking or home improvement project, pin it. Women take up the majority of users on Pinterest, but men are using the site as well, so that’s something to think about. Look through your blog and find some unique or interesting tutorials and pin the final image product of the tutorial. You can also create a strip of images that shows a general idea of each step, but have the pin lead to the full tutorial.
Find Popular Topics
There are certain popular topics and trends going on at Pinterest at any given time. To find them, either click on the “Everything” category or the “Popular” category. Scroll through them for a few minutes and look for the current trend. Another thing to do is perform a search for Pinterest on Twitter or other social media site. You are bound to notice certain trends pop out at you. Find the ones that relate to your website somehow and find content to pin to your site that is along the same lines as those trends.
Write Effective Descriptions
There are some basic dos and don’ts with pin descriptions on Pinterest. First of all, don’t include a link to your website or blog in the description box. The pin image is already going to the site, so listing the site link twice makes it look like unprofessional. Make the descriptions very brief, perhaps funny or charming. Also, include a short call to action (CTA), such as asking for opinions, comments or instructing them to click the pin for the tutorial.
Have a Pinterest Contest
Contest always draw in a lot of visitors and views to websites and blogs. There are several ways to hold contests. You can instruct other PInterest users to either re-pin your pins to their boards, or have them pinning their favorite items or posts from your website or blog to Pinterest. Keep track of them and offer a final award to the winner of the contest. The winner can be randomly chosen from everyone who participated, or be the person who re-pinned the most items.
Pinterest is a great way to get more visitors to your site. Remember to have a “Pin It” button on your website to make it easy for others to pin items from your site.
